Spring Will Come

Spring Will Come - Life Simplified Business Solutions
“Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart.”  ~ Victor Hugo

Last weekend I had this crazy idea. I brought up my spring clothes for sorting and to change over my closets. I didn’t complete the project…and it is a good thing.

Oh winter. Tomorrow possible blizzard. My grape hyacinths are aching to come up and now they could be forced to sleep a little longer.

And still, I feel hopeful.

Spring Will Come

It will come no matter how much snow does or does not arrive. Believing this changes my perspective of the incoming storm.

In my communication classes, we talk about how perceptions shape our thoughts, behaviors and words. As much as we may want to behave in a certain way, it is not until our perceptions of a situation change that we can change.

My perception of this upcoming storm is…so what, this too shall pass. Sure it might be a bummer digging out my car, but with 40-50 degree weather coming I know it will melt quickly.  This perception shaped my storm prep, this communication and what I will do with my snow day (i.e. plan my garden and complete changing over my closets).

You don’t have to love the snow. You may even call me Pollyana. It doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is you awaken to your own perceptions and how they affect your life.

This Week

Notice how you communicate about situations, people, events, etc. Are you positive or negative? Then ask yourself why? What perception is driving that communication?  How does it make you feel?

If you don’t like how you feel, go back to the original thought or perception and see if you can look at it from a different angle.  See if that changes your communication or your behaviors.  You might be surprised.
